Plastic Surgery for Men

Are men different from women? The answer is yes and no. With men making up 10%-20% of all plastic surgery patients it is a worthwhile topic to explore.

Anatomic differences not withstanding, men and women are subject to the same external forces and stress. Slight modifications in treatment are needed to make up for these differences, but the result is men who are better prepared to navigate the job market and life, in general, with greater confidence and improved self esteem. The competitive edge in the work force or the dating game of a younger more vibrant individual can be maintained now, more than ever, with non invasive treatments that create and maintain youthful contours with minimal effort.

Have a Question

Why do men consider having plastic surgery?

Men are subjected to the same market forces and social media campaigns as women. They see young, fit men promoting everything from employment opportunities to athletic endeavors to fashion, all equating youth with success. Business opportunities abound, but the competition is relentless, with younger less experienced men grabbing the best jobs. Plastic surgery, offers a way to level the playing field. Non-invasive procedures such as CoolSculpting and Botox can provide the edge needed by thinning a heavy neck or softening the lines around the eyes. Surgery offers even more advantage. Improved self confidence results from these interventions.

Consider the fathers among you. Sleepless nights, worry about health, school and behavior not to mention work responsibilities and paying the mortgage all take their toll and lead to premature wrinkles. More time with the family means less time at the gym. Grazing on left over chicken nuggets and fries and poor eating habits associated with busy children’s schedules can lead to a decline in appearance and have negative impact on self esteem. Yes, daddies are concerned about their appearance too and aren’t too happy about having to buy bigger clothes, seeing love handles or looking in the mirror and noticing bags under their eyes.

What plastic surgery procedures do men seek?

Surgical Procedures for Men

  • TummyTuck

Cosmetic procedures for men are targeted, but seem to follow similar patterns for women. Most commonly men are seeking out treatment for facial “worry” lines. Botox and fillers are ideal solutions, and are non invasive, which means immediate return to work, with no one having to know. Many men are concerned about their skin and are seeking out chemical peels. Men in general don’t like things hanging off of their face and seek not only removal, but prevention. Ultherapy and now Kybella offer non invasive treatments to tighten that sagging neck or reduce/eliminate that double chin, with no down time.

Daddies complain of the same issues as mommies. Weight gain and excess fatty deposits. Most commonly, men are seeking out treatment of that spare tire around their waist. CoolSculpting, an amazing new technology, with proven results, can literally freeze away the fat with no down time. That means no time lost from professional or social activities including that weekly game of tennis or that round of golf. Liposuction which also treats pockets of stubborn fat around the stomach, waist and buttocks, is the traditional alternative to CoolSculpting. Liposuction requires 2 or 3 incisions one half inch long and allows for a return to work one or 2 days later. Men often complain of “man boobs.” This is called gynecomastia and is the equivalent of male breast reduction. This often responds to either CoolSculpting or liposuction.

Men can gain weight just like women. While the natural distribution of fat is different in men, excess weight gain leads to large fatty deposits. After weight loss, excess skin in the midsection or even the chest occurs. This would benefit from correction with a tummy tuck or body lift.
