Xeomin is the newest addition to the wrinkle reduction family. New Jersey plastic surgeon Dr. Friedlander understands the importance of looking natural, not overdone and uses her years of experience with neuromodulators to achieve the same undone look with Xeomin. Like Dysport, it can be used on men and women as a Botox Cosmetic alternative. It temporarily interferes with muscle activity leading to wrinkle reduction. Like the other wrinkle reducers, Xeomin it may improve facial appearance and is often used in conjunction with fillers or other spa treatments to restore a more youthful appearance.
A Botox Cosmetic Alternative
Xeomin is the lastest neuromodulator to be FDA approved for cosmetic and non-cosmetic uses. Introduced in 2011, it acts the same way as Botox Cosmetic and Dysport in blocking the nerve receptor, but it is a more purified form of the product. It lacks a certain protein which renders it less antigenic (“allergic”), meaning it may act when Botox Cosmetic or Dysport fail.
Beverly Friedlander, MD
It works very much like Botox Cosmetic and Dysport. It targets the muscle that causes the contraction leading to a wrinkle, by preventing the uptake of acetylcholine, a neurotransmitter. It has both cosmetic and non cosmetic uses. It is FDA approved for temporary improvement in glabellar (between the eyebrows) frown lines. Xeomin is also approved to treat muscle spasm in the neck and blepharospasm, or abnormal muscular contractions in the muscle surrounding the eye in patients previously treated with Botox Cosmetic.
There are minor differences between Xeomin and Botox Cosmetic. These differences may play an important role in patients who are resistant to Botox Cosmetic. A small percentage of patients show little or no improvement when Botox Cosmetic is injected by a skilled injector. This may be related to the presence of certain proteins on the Botox Cosmetic molecule. This protein is a biological marker which is not needed for activity. The absence of these proteins on the Xeomin molecule may render it effective in these patients.
True Beauty Med Spa
Simply put, most doctors, including Dr. Friedlander, use Xeomin when Botox Cosmetic and Dysport don’t work. This happens in a very small percentage of patients. The easiest way to understand this is to think of an allergic reaction preventing the Botox Cosmetic from working. This “allergic” reaction is caused by a protein found in Botox Cosmetic and Dysport. Removing this protein, as is done in Xeomin, prevents the inhibitory allergic reaction and allows Xeomin to function when Botox Cosmetic and Dysport won’t.
Xeomin treatment is similar to Botox Cosmetic and Dysport in all respects. During your treatment with Xeomin New Jersey plastic surgeon Dr. Friedlander will administer several tiny injections used to target the muscles causing the wrinkle. Side effects are uncommon and most often are associated with headache or swelling.
Much like program for the other wrinkle reducers, Merz, the parent company of Xeomin, offers a loyalty program called Xperience . This program is a bit different in that it offers pre paid Visa cards instead of reward points. It too can be used for all Merz injectables such as Radiesse.
