Sculptra® Aesthetic in New Jersey

Facial aging is much more than the sagging of the skin and muscle. It also involves fat loss and bone resorption. Sculptra® Aesthetic is an injectable filler that can help improve all of these facial aging issues in a gradual and natural-looking way.

So much of youthful skin is dependent on collagen production. Unfortunately, high collagen levels do not last forever. It has been shown that adults produce one percent less collagen every year after the age of 20, leading to a significant decline once you reach your 40s, 50s, and 60s. While many hyaluronic acid fillers can restore the volume loss caused by diminishing collagen, they cannot restore the collagen itself. Sculptra® Aesthetic, on the other hand, stimulates your body to make more collagen, adding strength and vitality to your skin. Since it is your collagen being created, the results will look natural.

Have a Question

What is Sculptra® Aesthetic?

Sculptra® Aesthetic is a synthetic compound that helps to turn back the clock and provide subtle or profound improvement. This injectable is composed of a biocompatible poly-L-lactic (PLLA) acid that gradually stimulates collagen production to restore natural youthfulness and facial balance.

How is Sculptra® Aesthetic different from other fillers?

While it is still considered an injectable filler, Sculptra® Aesthetic does not work in the same way as hyaluronic acid (HA) fillers such as injectable Restylane® and JUVÉDERM®. HA fillers instantly add volume to plump the facial contours. Sculptra® Aesthetic, on the other hand, is designed to stimulate collagen production for natural fullness and smoothness. While the results of Sculptra® Aesthetic last much longer than other fillers, they are not as immediate. Often, it takes several weeks for Sculptra® Aesthetic results to start showing.

Am I a candidate for Sculptra® Aesthetic?

Sculptra® Aesthetic is used to fill hollow areas and deep wrinkles while restoring skin tone and texture. This injectable is appropriate for men and women who have developed noticeable aging due to collagen loss. Those interested in the treatment should be in good overall health and have realistic expectations for their results.

What are the benefits of Sculptra® Aesthetic?

Sculptra® Aesthetic improves multiple areas, including the:

  • Chin/Jaw Line
  • Cheeks
  • Temporal hollow
  • Décolleté

Sculptra® Aesthetic can also be used to improve the crepe paper-like appearance of the upper arm and inner thigh and smooth out the buttocks.

How should I prepare for my Sculptra® Aesthetic treatment?

Before your Sculptra® Aesthetic injections, Dr. Friedlander asks that you avoid taking aspirin, NSAIDs, and any other blood-thinning medications. These increase the chance of bruising and other side effects.

How is Sculptra® Aesthetic injected?

Sculptra® Aesthetic injections are performed in the safety and comfort of Dr. Friedlander’s Short Hills, New Jersey, office.

Sculptra® Aesthetic injections are quick, and you can return to your day-to-day activities immediately following your appointment.

During your Sculptra® Aesthetic appointment:

  1. Your face is washed.
  2. Sculptra® Aesthetic is mixed with lidocaine to increase your comfort during your treatment.
  3. During the first session, all regions of your face will be treated. Subsequent treatments may focus or direct injections toward specific concerns or address asymmetries.

Typically, most individuals benefit from a series of two to three treatments spaced four to six weeks apart. These repeated treatments will help to improve the quality and duration of your results.

Your results will be assessed after your last treatment to determine if additional Sculptra® Aesthetic is necessary.

Should I combine Sculptra® Aesthetic with other treatments in New Jersey?

Sculptra® Aesthetic can be performed alone to stimulate collagen production or alongside other facial rejuvenation procedures to further enhance your results.

Common combination treatments include:

  • A liquid facelift, to reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles and provide immediate fullness to facial contours
  • BOTOX® Cosmetic, to reduce the appearance of expression-causing wrinkles around the eyes and mouth
  • Laser resurfacing, to improve skin tone and texture by correcting irregular pigmentation
  • Ultherapy® skin tightening, to tighten skin on the face, neck, and décollete

What can I expect during my Sculptra® Aesthetic recovery?

Sculptra® Aesthetic injections are performed in our office, and you can return to your regular schedule immediately after your treatment. It is common to develop swelling at the injection sites. You will be asked to massage all facial areas five times a day for five minutes at a time for the first five days after treatment. These massages will help reduce swelling and help distribute the Sculptra® evenly throughout the tissue.

Are there any risks associated with Sculptra® Aesthetic?

Sculptra® Aesthetic involves non-surgical injections that are very safe. As with all fillers, some temporary side effects can develop. These include swelling, tenderness, redness, discomfort, bruising, itching, and granulomas. Granulomas are small lumps that develop in the treatment areas. These lumps are very uncommon and can be lessened with the use of massage.

Since Sculptra® Aesthetic stimulates collagen production instead of temporarily filling a thinning area, the results are not immediate. Most patients start to see their results within four to six weeks of the treatment, which will gradually improve over the following months. Sculptra® Aesthetic lasts up to two years, although it may last longer. Sculptra® Aesthetic studies have only monitored longevity for two years.

Even though Sculptra® Aesthetics stimulates collagen and is long-lasting, it will not last forever. Touch-up treatments are suggested every few years to maintain your results.
