Have a QuestionWhat are the indications for Hand Rejuvenation?
As we age our body changes. These changes are seen not only in the face, but all over the body. This means that our hands lose fullness and begin to look fragile with increased vein and tendon visibility. There are a number of effective treatments to ensure more youthful appearing hands- and it takes more than just cream.
- Prominent veins and tendons (due to volume loss)
- Wrinkled and thin hands
- Age spots
- Increased pigmentation
What types of treatments are available for Hand Rejuvenation?
The most common form of treatment is volume restoration or fillers. We can create softer, plumper hands and reduce the prominence of the veins and tendons by filling the spaces between them. Dr. Friedlander prefers fillers such as Restylane Lyft or Radiesse for this purpose. This is an in office treatment resulting in an immediate improvement. On average, 1 syringe of filler is needed for each hand, but this will depend on the severity of the problem.
Fat transfers offer a natural alternative to filler and also result in an immediate improvement.
Both fillers and fat transfers achieve excellent results when used to rejuvenate the hands. Both can be done in the office with a local anesthesia. Although fat transfers are more natural and confer longer lasting results, the process of harvesting the fat may be a bit uncomfortable. Fat transfers may also be associated with a little more swelling.
Much like on the face, correction needs more than volume. We need to improve the texture and color of the skin. This is done with lasers or peels. In both instances we need to pre treat the hands to ensure an even correction of color.
What is Hand Rejuvenation like?
Hand rejuvenation is an in office procedure that takes about half an hour to perform. We start with a thorough cleansing and a hand massage to hydrate the skin. A topical anesthetic may be applied. The filler is premixed with lidocaine so the injection is relatively painless. The hand is once again massaged to evenly distribute the filler. You can return to all activities immediately afterward. Some people experience mild swelling and bruising. This can be relieved with elevation and NSAID’s.
The result are younger looking, more beautiful hands. It’s time to stop letting your hands give away your secrets.
