Over time, active muscles in the brow and forehead can leave lines that linger longer than they used to. In Short Hills, New Jersey, Beverly Friedlander MD treats these areas with Dysport®, a neuromodulator known for smoothing movement-related wrinkles while keeping your expressions natural. As a board-certified plastic surgeon who performs every injection herself, she approaches this treatment with the same anatomical focus she brought to her surgical work.
As part of our injectables offerings, Dysport softens these dynamic lines. Many people choose it when they want a refreshed look that keeps their facial movement intact.

What Is Dysport?
Dysport is an FDA-approved neuromodulator used to soften facial lines formed by repeated muscle activity. It smooths wrinkles by interrupting the nerve signals that prompt muscles to contract. When used consistently, it helps prevent fine lines from deepening.
Dysport is approved to treat frown lines between the brows, but it can also be used in many of the same areas as Botox. The goal is a relaxed, smoother look that still reflects your natural expressions.
Dysport vs. Botox
Both Dysport and Botox are formulated from botulinum toxin type A, but they contain different accessory proteins. Dysport tends to spread a bit more, which can make it useful for treating larger regions such as the forehead and crow’s feet. Many people also notice their Dysport results appear slightly sooner—often within one to two days.
Units of Dysport are measured differently than units of Botox, so the number of units does not translate one-to-one. This difference is factored into dosing and cost during your visit.
Who Is a Candidate?
You may be a good candidate for Dysport if you are:
- An adult seeking improvement in frown lines
- Interested in smoothing areas that appear tense or overly active
- Comfortable with a temporary neuromodulator treatment
- In overall good health
If you are pregnant, have an allergy to milk proteins, or have an active infection, Dysport should be postponed.
Preparing for Dysport
Before your treatment, Dr. Bev may recommend pausing medications or supplements that increase bleeding or bruising, such as aspirin or NSAIDs. Please share any prescription medications, supplements, or recent treatments during your consultation. Avoiding tobacco before treatment is also helpful for healing.
Your Dysport Treatment
A Dysport session is quick, typically taking only a few minutes. If you prefer, a topical anesthetic can be applied before treatment. Dr. Bev places small injections with a fine needle into the targeted muscles. You may feel slight pressure as the product is placed, but the treatment is generally comfortable.
After Treatment
You can return to your routine right away, including work or home responsibilities. Mild swelling or pinpoint bruising may appear at the injection sites but fades quickly. Avoid strenuous exercise for a few hours and try not to rub or press on the treated areas. A mild headache can occur as the product begins to work, but this typically resolves on its own.
Dysport Results
Dysport tends to show early results within a day or two. Lines gradually soften as the muscle activity relaxes. The smoothing effect usually lasts three to four months. When you return for consistent visits, you help maintain a more relaxed, refreshed look year-round.
Can Dysport Be Combined with Other Treatments?
Yes. Dysport pairs well with dermal fillers and other nonsurgical treatments to create broader facial balance. During your appointment, Dr. Bev can help determine whether a combined approach fits your goals.
Risks and Side Effects
Dysport has an established safety profile. Side effects are uncommon, but can include:
- Mild discomfort at the injection site
- Temporary eyelid heaviness
- Localized swelling
- Headache
- Rare instances of temporary muscle weakness or visual changes
Dr. Bev reviews your medical history and goals to ensure the treatment is appropriate for you.
