Body Lift New Jersey

What is a Body Lift?

Body Lift New JerseyThe Body Lift, also known as a Belt Lipectomy, is a procedure that can achieve a dramatic change by removing excess skin and fat of abdomen and back. It is performed on patients who have lost massive amounts of weight or who have developed laxity as a result of natural aging or pregnancy. The body lift achieves much more than a tummy tuck since it tightens and sculpts the buttocks, back, hips, and outer thighs in addition to improving the abdomen, achieving a firmer, smoother shape all around*. Another way to look at a Body Lift is to think of it as a Tummy Tuck (link to Tummy Tuck Page) and a Buttock Lift combined. If you can grab your skin, and pull it up, and create the shape you want, this may be a good procedure for you. You will enjoy greater comfort in your clothing choices and in your self-esteem as a result of this surgery.

Am I a Good Candidate?

People often struggle to lose weight through diet and exercise or through gastric bypass surgery only to find that they feel frustrated by the resulting excess skin along the lower abdomen, uneven contours and loose and wrinkled skin along the thighs and buttocks. Aging, genetics, pregnancy and fluctuations in weight can also contribute to lax tissue and result in sagging of the mid section. If you are in good general health, and your weight is stable and near your ideal weight for your frame, you may wish to consider Body Lift Surgery.

Reasons to Consider Body Lift Surgery:

  • Gastric Bypass Surgery has resulted in large amounts of weight loss and loose skin and irregular bulges or contours.
  • Diet and Exercise has resulted in large amounts of weight loss and loose skin.
  • Pregnancy and or Aging has resulted in loose skin around the abdomen, buttocks or thighs or you have cellulite below the waistline.
  • You have skin laxity, excess skin, drooping of the buttocks and abdominal wall laxity.
  • The layers of fat below your loose skin are relatively thin.

What is Involved in the Consultation?

The surgery is individualized to meet your needs. New Jersey Plastic Surgeon, Dr. Friedlander will review your personal aesthetic goals in order to develop the best treatment plan for you. After examining you, she will recommend the procedure that will best address your needs, and review that procedure in detail. Often times, a comprehensive plan is created if you wish to treat multiple areas that have been affected by your weight loss.

How is the Body Lift Procedure Performed?

Body Lift New JerseyThe body lift procedure addresses the abdomen and back( buttock, hips and thighs) in one procedure. The loose skin on the abdomen and back side is identified and marked as seen on the schematic to the left. This will accommodate the tightening of the abdomen(Tummy Tuck) and the lifting and tightening of the thighs and buttocks as well. The incision extends the tummy Tuck all the way around the torso and is usually hidden within the panty line. The position of the resulting scar will depend on where the excess skin is located. Dr. Friedlander performs the posterior surgery to lift and resuspend the buttocks and thighs first. She then positions you on your back to perform the tummy tuck, where she will remove the excess skin and tighten the abdominal muscles. If you have already undergone a tummy tuck, she will tighten your waist further. In cases that require fat removal, liposuction may be added. She places drains at the end of the procedure she uses an abdominal binder to support the repairs. The procedure requires several hours and is performed under general anesthesia.

What Can I Expect After the Surgery?

Dr. Friedlander observes her patients in the hospital for 1-2 days. During your hospital stay, any pain or discomfort is controlled through the use of Exparel a long acting local anesthetic given during the surgery and a PCA pump which allows you to administer controlled amounts of pain medication to yourself. You will be instructed on drain care by the nurses. This is a major surgery and requires a commitment to allow the body to heal. You are encouraged to walk the day after the surgery. You will likely feel fatigued for 2 weeks after the surgery and you will need help at home especially if you have children. Light household activity is permitted after 2 weeks, return to work after about 4-6 weeks and strenuous activity and working out is delayed for 6-8 weeks.

What are the Risks of Body Lift Surgery?
