Vascular and Pigment Lasers New Jersey

Lasers can restore a more youthful look to your skin by treating the conditions that are typically associated with premature signs of aging, such as wrinkles, facial veins, redness, and sun damage.

Laser Modern technology has advanced greatly and laser therapy offers treatments of a great many superficial skin conditions, from scarring and wrinkle reduction, to brown pigmented lesions and red vascular lesions and vessels to many things in between. The laser harnesses the energy in light to eliminate the problem. The object, or target, is attracted to certain colors(wavelengths). The absorption of that wavelength releases energy in the form of heat which destroys the target. A single wavelength can be used and by adjusting the energy and length of time the wave is in contact with the target we can maximize the destruction and minimize the surrounding damage. All of the laser platforms are based on this theory and differ slightly. The result is the same- an improvement in the appearance of the targeted problem.

Here in the office of Dr. Friedlander and at the True Beauty Med Spa we offer treatments that address wrinkles and discolorations caused by the aging process. We have lasers to smooth the skin, lasers to remove brown spots and lasers to reduce redness from vascular lesions.

Lasers for Vascular Problems

It is possible to treat Rosacea, spider veins, capillary angiomas with lasers. We offer several lasers for these problems. The vascular lesions can be treated with the Med-Lite Q Switched 1064 nm or the Lyra Laser. Both offer improvement in only 1 -2 sessions spaced 4-6 weeks apart. The area or vessel treated may turn brown, resembling a “scratch” but rapidly fades to skin tone over a couple of days. The treatment is typically well tolerated, does not require a local anesthetic and has no down time. Emollient ointments should be applied after the treatment of any lesion on the face. Sun exposure needs to be limited and sunscreens are a must.

Lasers for Pigmented Lesions

Brown spots seen on the face, neck, arms and hands are a sign of sun damage and frequently associated with aging. These lesions are treated with a 532 KTP laser ( Med-Lite Q Switch) but require long tern suppression. The laser removes the surface pigment but the cells creating the pigment are unharmed. This means the pigment will return at some point. The best results are achieved when some type of suppression is used in conjunction with the laser. This means performing a CO2 resurfacing if the pigmentation is wide spread or using peels and skin care products to keep the problem at bay. The treatment is well tolerated on the face, the décolleté and the hands. No topical is needed. The area needs to covered with an emollient ointment for a few days. It will appear to be darker in color after a day or two, as the skin begins to slough off. The treated areas peel in 3 or 4 days resulting in a reduction in pigment.
