Ultherapy New Jersey

ulthera_logoGravity is not our friend. Until now, the only way we could counter the effect of gravity was with surgery. That has changed with the arrival of Ultherapy. It is being touted as the latest high tech treatment for non surgical rejuvenation by beauty editors in Vogue, Elle, Bazaar and more, as well as being publicized on national TV. Dr Friedlander was skeptical about the claims, having seen so many technologies come and go. But she was intrigued by the concept and the published results, so she tried the procedure herself.

Dr. Friedlander discusses her Ultherapy procedure:

“The concept of a non surgical lift is not new, but the ability to maintain the result long term is. I am entering my 25th year of practice, so gravity and time are taking their toll. When I looked in the mirror, I saw exactly what my patients saw-photo damaged skin, fine lines and wrinkles, and skin laxity. My jaw line wasn’t as defined as it used to be. My brows were dropping. Let’s face it, I was not as young as I used to be. When I heard about Ultherapy I thought it was a no brainer–no downtime or risk —- no surgery—- which meant no time away from my busy practice or my family. I saw some improvement in the very beginning, but most of the changes occurred 2-3 months after the procedure*. My face and skin look great and I look younger and as good as I did a couple of years ago.”

What exactly is Ultherapy?

It is a revolutionary new non surgical procedure that uses ultrasound to actually lift and tone loose skin without any downtime. That is right. No scalpels, no needles no injections and no downtime. It is not a laser and is safe on all skin types because it penetrates through the skin, lifting and tightening from the inside out. It uses the same ultrasound energy that is used to evaluate the fetus during pregnancy, but this application focuses the sound below the skin stimulating the tissue to tighten and contract. It is truly a lunchtime lift*. You can return to work or go to the gym immediately after the procedure. You can go out to dinner the same night. While there may be an immediate improvement, most of the lifting and tightening occurs gradually as the treated area heals itself, resulting in a natural appearance*.

How does Ultherapy work?

Ultherapy works by delivering sound energy focused at a specific depth to gently heat the tissue. This stimulates the renewal of existing collagen and creation of new collagen. Collagen is a natural protein that provides structural support to the skin, giving it its youthful appearance by hydrating it and keeping it firmed and toned*. As we age, collagen decreases in quantity and strength, leading to fine lines, wrinkles and sagging. Ultherapy restores a more youthful balance by stimulating collagen production. Some tightening occurs immediately after treatment, but the majority of tightening is seen as a gradual lifting and toning of the skin over 2-3 months. As collagen renewal continues, further improvements can be seen resulting in a very natural appearance*.

Why is Ultherapy different?

Ultherapy targets the deep foundation below the skin without cutting or disrupting the skin surface unlike surgery or lasers. The result heals from the inside out. The procedure uses ultrasound imaging to actually SEE and TREAT the layers of tissue and muscle. This ensures the energy will be delivered precisely at the level where it is most effective.

Is Ultherapy safe?

Ultrasound has a proven record with use in Medicine for over 50 years. Ultherapy has been cleared by the FDA after demonstrating safety in clinical studies. Tens of thousands treatments have been performed worldwide without any significant adverse events.

Who is a good candidate for Ultherapy?

Good candidates for Ultherapy are people with good skin quality with mild to moderate laxity. Typically, people in their 30’s or older are good candidates. Signs of laxity and skin relaxation include skin that looks and feels less firm. A lowered brow line or loose skin on the eyelids is often an early sign of relaxation. Ultherapy will lift the brow opening up the eye creating a more refreshed appearance. Other areas of laxity respond as well*.

Ultherapy is an uplift, not a facelift. It is not a replacement for surgery. It can lift and tighten the skin leading to a refreshed appearance. It is ideal for someone who does not want surgery because of the expense, the downtime or the fear, but wants to look better. It also is an ideal compliment to other non invasive forms of treatment such as Botox and fillers*.

What areas can be treated with Ultherapy?

Ultherapy addresses mild to moderate loose or sagging skin on the face and neck. It will lift the brow, which in turn reduces excess skin on the lids, opens up the eyes, and gives a more refreshed look overall. Ultherapy is also used to lift and tighten sagging skin on the neck and under the chin, addressing the “turkey gobbler” and “double chin”. The Ulthera® system recently received FDA approval to non-invasively lift lax tissue lower on the neck and submental area. For years, we’ve heard about the concerns patients have with sagging skin under their chins and on their neck above the decollete area . Now Ultherapy has a treatment to address this issue – in a single session with no downtime*.

How long does it take?

The procedure takes about 60-90 minutes depending on the areas treated*.

Does it hurt?

There is some discomfort during the procedure. This is temporary and ends when the treatment is over*.

How many treatments are needed?

Typically only one treatment is needed to achieve a meaningful response. Patients with extensive laxity may benefit from more than one treatment*.

What are the risks of ultherapy?

Your skin may appear a bit flushed immediately after the treatment, but any redness should disappear within a few hours. Makeup can be reapplied immediately afterward if desired. Some people experience slight swelling for a few days following the procedure or tingling/tenderness to the touch for a few days to weeks following the procedure, but these are mild and temporary in nature. There is the possibility of other less common effects, such as temporary small areas of bruising or numbness*.
